  11. Prices on Many Macintosh Products in The U.S.

  13.  CUPERTINO, California--September 28, 1992--The Apple USA
  14. division of Apple Computer, Inc. announced today that it has
  15. reduced manufacturer suggested retail prices (SRPs) in the
  16. United States on many Apple Macintosh personal computers and
  17. related peripheral and accessory products.
  18.     Apple's SRP price reductions extend across the majority of the
  19. Macintosh product family including the Macintosh Quadra line.
  20. Reductions in SRP range from 11 percent to 36 percent on the following
  21. products: the Macintosh Classic II, Macintosh LC II, Macintosh
  22. IIsi, Macintosh IIci, Quadra 700, and selected configurations in
  23. the Quadra 950 line.   Price reductions will vary by product,
  24. based on configuration.  The new prices are effective immediately.
  25.     "Lowering our SRPs will enhance our competitive market
  26. position by providing computers at aggressive price points
  27. across the Macintosh product line," said Bob Puette, president
  28. of the Apple USA division of Apple Computer, Inc.
  29.     "This year Apple has seen solid gains in marketshare, unit share
  30. and overall revenue growth while many of our competitors have
  31. struggled to maintain their position," Puette added.  "We intend to
  32. continue our offensive posture by attracting new customers
  33. through aggressive pricing, excellent products and unmatched
  34. value."
  35.     Puette noted that while Apple USA is announcing a change in
  36. SRPs on many Macintosh products, it is difficult to calculate
  37. what effect this action will have on retail pricing set by resellers.
